Now that it is officially summer in Summit County, it is time to get that bike tuned and out on the trail. Most trails below 10,000 feet and without north-facing slopes are dry, cleared, and ready to go. The Frisco Peninsula trail system offers great riding for all skill and fitness levels. There are 11 trails on the peninsula, and the Lakeshore Perimeter Trail is a great trail to start out the mountain biking season.
The Lakeshore Perimeter Trail offers a flowing singletrack trail right along the shore of Dillon Reservoir. The trailhead is close to Frisco Main Street and can be accessed through the Waterdance Subdivision on the east side of Highway 9. The singletrack winds through aspen and pine trees for just over 5 miles.
A map is helpful for the first couple of rides on this trail, as it does cut through a campground and utilizes the bike path to get you around the complete perimeter. I recommend the Trailforks app.
The trail is the most difficult towards the end, with a climb to set you up to join the bike path and finish on banked turns and rollers at the Frisco Adventure Park, where the trail ends.
The most notable feature of riding the Frisco Peninsula is the proximity to post-ride cocktails. Simply hop on the bike path and follow it south to the marina to reward yourself!
