Have you been sculpting a dream of owning real estate in Breckenridge, Colorado? Come find your mountain inspiration at the 2017 International Snow Sculpting Championships in downtown Breckenridge. These awe-inspiring works of art will be in display in the Riverwalk parking lot (Tiger Dredge Lot) until Sunday, February 5th, 2017.
15 teams from around the globe worked with only hand tools for 65 hours across 5 days to each create their breathtaking masterpieces. Artists battled various weather conditions, including wind and warm temperatures during sculpting week, creating an unforgettable outdoor gallery of art. China took home the first place award with “Mermaid”, a piece that depicted an underwater scene highlighted by a swimming mermaid.
Team Sweden won Silver with “4 (Ever) Wheels Reflection”, depicting two cars tied together, an expression of both freedom and dependency. Team Mongolia-Erdene won Bronze with “We are One Family,” a piece that reflects the idea of animals coexisting with humans and nature. Winners receive medals and recognition from the international snow sculpture community, and although no prize money is awarded, all teams receive travel stipends, meals, and lodging. The result is one of the world’s most prestigious snow sculpting events, where teams are known to take risks and come together in the spirit of camaraderie.
